How do I unlock things in Resident Evil 5?

I want to know how to unlock any costumes that RE5 has for Chris and Sheva. Also I've heard about something where you can play as Chris and Jill in a mansion, but I don't know where I can play that level? and something else called mercenary mode. Could someone please help me out?
