I have a question about Expungement for juvenile case?

i was charge with a misdemeanor battery back in 1999 i was 17. i was put on probation and was released successfully after 6 months. 10 years later i now want to expunge this for employment reasons but on 9/16/2008 i was put on diversion for a year due to carrying a police baton in my car i will be completing diversion September 16, 2009(the charge was criminal use of a weapon.). i got a letter from the district attorneys office stating that they cannot proceed with expungement due to the diversion case. does this mean that i will never be able to expunge this juvinile battery charge? Other than this diversion i have never been arrested or charged with anything as an adult. all charges and actions have taken place in Johnson county Kansas. they gave me an option of petitioning the court and seeing if the judge will proceed with expungement, but i don't know if that's worth my time. thanks for helping
