What disease can you get from eating meat? can you live a healty life without meat?
To get some numbers on the people who contract foodborne illnesses ociated with meat, check out the CDC website. Actually, the only pathogen that can be spread in meat despite adequate cooking and sanitary handling practice is BSE- mad cow disease. The other food borne illnesses aren't necessariy restricted to just meat- so eliminating meat from the diet wouldn't eliminate the problem. As far as other diseases, you have the entire range of digestive problems like irritable bowel, and of course heart disease. Those too, aren't necessarily only attributable to meat either. It is quite possible to live a good healthy life and never consume meat in any form. Millions of people around the world have done so in the past, and do so to this day. Tofu and other soybean products, gluten products, and various combinations of beans/grains will provide all the essential proteins needed by the human body. Vegetarians depend on them for it. If you would like to speak with somebody in person about the subject, call the local hospital and see if you can talk with the hospital dietician/nutritionist. They will be the experts at answering your questions and can provide you with a wealth of information on the subject. And although you can still enjoy meat, you might want to try some of the alternatives. Meat is only part of a healthy diet, and it's always worth it to widen the dietary horizons. And who knows- you might find some of it that you like just as well.
