Trying top figure out the name of a book...?

I read this book in high school but can't remember the name of it. It is about a young man who was a cross country and track star back in the 60's. He became diagnosed with testicular cancer that moved through his body. While ravaged with cancer he became a track coach for young kids. His girls team won a championship the day after he sucb to cancer. I am almost positive it is a true story. This is a rather poor synopsis as it has probably been 13 years since I read this book. I have been trying to figure out the name of it for years. I would greatly appreciate any help.
