Is 'ghost in the shell' good?

Ghost In the Shell is very good, but it does ume you have some knowledge from the first collected volume of manga (in stores) just so you understand what are enhanced humans, what are cyborgs, what's a ghost, and what's section 11. Most of this can be picked up (sort of) from the show itself, but there's just SOOO much more packed into the manga. The author himself has apologized for burning out teams of translators :-)
