Does anyone else have similar pain?

I've got the most excruciating pain on the right side of my face and head. It started over a year ago and comes and goes as it pleases. It feels as if it stems from just above my ear next to the temporomandibular joint, but the pain shoots through my jaw, down in my neck and throat, up into my temple and all around the top and back of my head. It's awful. It worsens at night while I'm lying down which almost makes it impossible to sleep. I've seen my doc and a neurologist, but no one knows what is wrong. So far I've been given pain killers. They work sometimes, sometimes they don't. I just can't imagine having this problem for the rest of my life. Just as soon as I think the problem is gone, it returns. I've heard that pain in this area is hard to diagnose. I was once told it was TMJ, but that was quickly crossed out. Can anyone relate?
